Scientist in the Field of Mechanics of Rocketry and Rocket-Space Equipment Engines, Corresponding Member of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Sciences (1978), Hero of Socialist Labor (1961), Lenin Prize Laureate (1964), USSR State Prize Laureate (1977).

Ivan I. Ivanov was born in 1918 in the Tver Region. After graduation from the Kazan Aviation Technical School, he worked at the experimental design bureau at the Kazan Motor-Building Production Association. Under the leadership of Sergey P. Korolev and Valentin P. Glushko, he participated in the creation of liquid-propellant rocket boosters for Pe-2 Dive Bombers. These special boosters made it possible to reduce significantly the takeoff run and increase the flying speed. Moreover, he successfully studied at the Kazan Aviation Institute. In 1946, he was the first to defend his thesis project on liquid propellant rocket engines.

He made a significant contribution to the creation of new manufacturing and experimental test base for the production and tests of liquid-propellant rocket engines and their units. Ivan I. Ivanov made it possible to ensure high reliability of engines and their manufacturability. The Design Bureau-4 team designed a number of liquid-propellant rocket engines and power plants for various applications.

At the same time, he worked as a professor at the Department of Heat Engineering at the Dnepropetrovsk State University.

Ivan I. Ivanov was awarded two Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, and Medals of the USSR.
